Liliane Kegris Atwood, 92, was born in Bay Shore, NY to Gottfried and Cecelia Schrech Schiffers, who were natives of Dunwald, Germany and emigrated to NY on the Rotterdam in 1907. She had one brother, Gottfried Schiffers, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY who predeceased her. Mrs. Atwood lived most of her adult life in Amityville, NY where her first husband, Harry Kegris, had a successful boat repair business while she owned the Fisher Insurance Agency. After retirement, they moved to Deland, FL and then to New Smyrna Beach, where they enjoyed boating with many friends until Harry’s death. She also enjoyed needlepoint and bridge. Mrs. Atwood moved to Penney Retirement Community in 2003 and married her longtime friend from Amityville, Harold Atwood, in May 2007. He predeceased her on November 7, 2010 at the age of 104. Mrs. Atwood died less than a month later on December 6, 2010. The family is planning a brief memorial service for both at the retirement community on January 15, 2011 then their ashes will be spread in NY’s Great South Bay in the spring.
