Dan Given, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Fleming Island, FL on January 8, 2011. He was the son of Red and Ag Given of Potsdam, NY. Dan proudly served his country for 26 years as a United States Navy Master Chief Petty Officer and Flight Engineer. After his retirement in 1986 from the Navy, Dan rose to prominence in the aircraft repair business and held executive positions at facilities in both Lake City and Jacksonville, FL. Dan was an avid boater and loved vacation cruising around the world. He never knew a stranger and would never miss an opportunity to recite his motto “you can’t put a price on a good time”. Dan was a member of the Elks and VFW. All who came in contact with “Dancing Dan” will miss him. Survivors include his loving wife, Glenda; daughters, Kim Allie of Prescott, AZ, Tammy Hall of Flower Mound, TX, Carla Sparks of Green Cove Springs, FL and Lisa Hobbs of Memphis, TN; son, Danny Given of Memphis, TN; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren that he cherished. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Military Honors conferred. His cremains will be inurned in the Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
