Hayward W. “Tommy” Thompson, 86, passed away January 20, 2011. He was born in Owensville, Indiana on September 1, 1924. Tommy had been a resident of Green Cove Springs for over 60 years. He retired from the United States Navy as Chief following over 20 years of dedicated service. He was highly decorated for service during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following retirement from the Navy, he managed the Clay Theater in the early 60’s. He went on to be the Assistant Maintenance Director with the Clay County School Board and retired after 20 years of service. Tommy was predeceased by his wife, Marie Thompson in 1990, and is survived by his loving son, David W. (Marie) Thompson of Green Cove Springs; grandchildren, Jacquelyn Thompson and Tommy Thompson; great-granddaughter, Haley Marie Wingate; sister, Barbara (Harold) Adams of Mt. Carmel, IL. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. The family will receive friends beginning an hour prior to service time.
