Theodore E. "Ted" Sledge

September 23, 1942 — January 20, 2011

Theodore E. “Ted” Sledge, 68, passed away January 20, 2011. He was born September 23, 1942 in LaGrange, GA to Walter and Lillian Sledge. Ted has been a resident of Jacksonville since 1963. In his youth, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was the Director of Finance for Family Housing Management Company, a ministry of the Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine. He was a member of the Morocco Shrine Temple, Duval Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, Beaches Shrine Club, Hospitality Association, Morocco Temple Golf Association, Provost Guard Unit, past Commander and a charter member of the Flying Fez Association, and had been the Assistant Parade Marshal for 13 years. Golf was his hobby, traveling the world with Peggy Gayle was his passion, and cruising the oceans was his relaxation. His family was the love of his life. He is survived by his lifelong friend and beloved wife of 49 years, Peggy Gayle Sledge; daughters, Priscilla Sledge and Melissa West; granddaughters, Amanda W. (Brett) Ransom and Lindsey W. (Chris) Cardwell, their father, Roy West; great-grandchildren, Jake and Ben “Moose” Ransom, Christopher and Lucas Cardwell; and one sister. A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Morocco Shrine Temple, 3800 St. John’s Bluff Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32224. Masonic Rites will be conferred. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Ted’s memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 12502 USF, Pine Dr., Tampa, Florida 33612.
