David Allen

David Allen, 95, passed away April 1, 2011 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center in Orange Park, FL. He was born to Robert and Mary Allen on May 26, 1915 in Enterprise, FL. He served in the Army for 26 years and then served as a civil servant in the personnel department for NAS Jacksonville. David married Erna Stiebert on August 2, 1948 in Bensheim, Germany. They had two children Vivian and Robert. David and Erna started their married life in Heidelberg, Germany. They arrived in Florida on Labor Day 1948 and then stationed in Ft. Lee, Virginia. He was transferred to Texas where he was and instructor for the ROTC program at the University of Houston. Their son Robert was born in Houston, Texas. After four years in Texas, he was sent to China serving the Military Assistant Advisory Group. After returning from China, he was sent to Augusta Georgia. While on a second tour in China, daughter Vivian was born. When he came back to the states, he was sent to Jacksonville and he met his eight month old daughter for the first time. He retired from the Army while in Jacksonville. After about a year, David went to Jones College on the GI Bill and earned his BA in business administration. David was very active in the Methodist Church serving as a deacon, lay preacher, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He enjoyed walking, dancing, visiting shut-ins, music and gardening. David became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on January 25, 1976 when he joined Lake Shore, FL Lodge #2020. David and Erna came to Moosehaven on November 30, 1999. He is survived by his wife Erna Allen; son, Robert Allen, of South FL; daughter, Vivian McGee of Green Cove Springs, FL; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Services held Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 1:30 PM in the Moosehaven Chapel with Rev. Helen Taylor and Officers of Opportunity Lodge officiating. Military Honors will be conferred.
