Robert Ernest Fulop, 84, peacefully departed this life for his heavenly home on June 15, 2011 after a short illness. He was born in Chicago, IL on October 21, 1926. Together with his wife, Vernette, he moved from Shawnee, KS in 2001 to Penney Farms, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Grace Fulop; brothers, Louis and Albert Fulop; sister, Grace Grollimund; and a son, James Fulop. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and was last stationed in Green Cove Springs, FL. He graduated from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) in 1950, Northern Baptist Theological Seminary (Chicago) in 1953 and New College, University of Edinburgh (Scotland) in 1959 with a PHD in Historical Theology. He pastored the First Baptist Church in Appleton, WI before serving for fifteen years in Japan as a missionary teacher at Kanto Gakuin University in Yokohama. For twenty-six years he was Professor of Church History and Missions at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, then located in Kansas City, KS where he is also a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vernette F. Fulop; children, Judy Fulop of Chicago, IL and Timothy (Jacklyn) Fulop of Kansas City, MO, and grandchildren, Evan, Grace, Emma and Lily. Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Penney Farms Memorial Church. Interment was in Penney Farms Retirement Cemetery.
