Betty Jean Batman Jones

Betty Jean Batman Jones born on October 11, 1926 in Vincennes, IN was called home, on June 30, 2011 in Orange Park, FL. Born to Emery E. and Zora E. Batman moved to Flora, IL at a young age. Graduated from Flora High School in 1944, then moved back to Vincennes, IN to attend Vincennes University. In 1947 she met a sailor on leave, Ralph A. Jones, Jr. whom she married in February, 1949. Betty and Ralph were married for over 62 years. Betty Jean is the mother of Jean Ann Jones Shaw (Mark) of Ponte Vedra and Ralph E. “Buddy” Jones (LeAnne) of Green Cove Springs. Grandmother to Joanna C. Shaw Frost (John), Bethany M. Shaw Johnson (Andy) and Hannah Jones. Great-grandmother to Sari Frost, Selah, Ocean and AJ Johnson. Aunt to niece Cassie Lackey and three great-nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her infant son Ralph and infant daughter Sherry. Betty Jean was a homemaker and Tupperware Dealer. She also enjoyed substitute teaching for Clay County Public Schools during the 1960’s and 1970’s. She was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs where she taught Sunday School and was a former choir director. Member of O.E.S #45, Khem Temple Chorus, Daughters of the Nile, V.I.A. of Green Cove Springs, Social Order of Beauceant #200, Homemakers (Clay County Extension Office) Sweet Adelines, and Methodist Women. Betty Jean will be missed by her family and friends. The family has requested any memorials be made to your favorite charity. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs with Dr. Frank Seghers officiating.
