Helen Homer, 85, passed away September 11, 2011 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center. She was born to Louis and Lena Schafer on August 29, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas. Helen married J.C. Nickens in June of 1948. They had three children, Margaret (Peggy), Patricia and John. She later married Donald A. Homer on April 12, 1980. She graduated in 1947 from Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas as an RN. She worked for 30 years for different doctors in Texas, Baltimore, and Florida. Helen also helped Don as a carpenter’s helper. Helen became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on December 11, 1984 when she joined Sebastian River, FL Chapter #1764. She kept very busy in her chapter and received her Academy of Friendship in 1987, and received her College of Regent Degree in 1995. Helen and Don came to Moosehaven on May 30, 2001. Don preceded her in death on April 11, 2006. No services are planned. She will be laid to rest in South Florida. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia (Michael) Raglin of Boca Raton, Florida and Margaret Hildebrandt of Delray Beach, Florida, and one son, John Nickens of Deerfield Beach, Florida, as well as three grandchildren, Brian Kramer, Melissa Raglin, Michael (Jessica) Raglin.
