C. Robert “Kit” Carson, 86, of Penney Farms Retirement Community, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2007. He was born on April 28, 1921 in Saginaw, MI to parents, Horace and Lillian Carson. Mr. Carson was a retired United Methodist Church Minister and had resided at PRC for 6 years. His life’s work was the United Methodist Church. After his marriage to Polly, they ran an orphanage in the Kentucky Mountains. He was involved in the Lion’s Club in Michigan and was a very inventive fellow. He loved old cars, homemade campers and building steam engines. He built clocks at PRC, was the President of the PRC Garden Club as well as teaching a ladies woodworking class and training dogs for the local residents. His children describe their dad as a very remarkable man who touched many lives. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Polly Carson; sons, Stephen L. Carson (Virginia) and Charles Robert Carson (Annelies); brothers, Eugene Carson and Harold Maier; sister, Mae Yarbrough; grandchildren, Beverly Copeland (Russell), Miriam Patterson (Christopher), Christopher Carson (Pam), Sarah Carson and Heidi Curtis (Jeff) and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Lauren and Jacob Curtis, Gerrit Carson, James, Shaunna and Russell Copeland and Hannah Patterson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, July 23, 2007 in the chapel of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home with Reverend Ivan Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow in the Penney Farms Retirement Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Glioblastoma Brain Tumor research.
