Elmer Dean Cox, 77, of Green Cove Springs, passed away November 18, 2011. He was born on July 12, 1934 in Harriman, TN to Rev. James and Argest Cox. He was a long-time member of Green Cove Springs Congregational Holiness Church in Green Cove Springs where he played the guitar and sang. His love of music began as a child. It is said that when he was only in the fourth grade, he performed songs on the guitar for his fourth grade class many times. Two of the songs that were regularly enjoyed by the church were “I Come to the Garden Alone” and “I’m Using My Bible for a Road Map.” His passion was fishing the St. Johns River and he loved to tell fishing stories. He could be counted on for a good joke and was known as a good friend, loving husband excellent father, and doting grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, James H. Cox, Jr. and Johnny Cox and a sister, Bernice Mathis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Pauline Cox; son, Larry (Peggy) Cox; daughters, Brenda (Rev. Ronnie) Surrency, Delorese (Rev. Joe) Foster and Paula (David) Francis; sister, Argest Kathleen Butcher; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home Monday, November 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Congregational Holiness Church, 2079 S.R. 16 W, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. Reverend Ronnie Surrency, Reverend Joe Foster, Reverend Mitch Perry and Reverend Donald K. Register will officiate. Burial will follow in Penney Farms Cemetery.
