Mrs. Betty Brown

Mrs. Betty Brown, 89, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011. She was born on July 21, 1922 in Starke, FL to parents, William and Mable Stringfellow. In her early days, she enjoyed skeet shooting, waterskiing and horseback riding. She raised exotic birds, poodles, was an avid fisherman as well as enjoying bowling. She and her husband formerly owned the Brown & Cartwright Ace Hardware. Mrs. Brown was a former Strawberry Queen of Starke, FL and will be remembered as a loving mom, grandma and great-grandma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Homer Brown and her daughter, Patricia L. Gillespie. Survivors include her children, Celia (Henry) Sohm, George E. (J. Elaine) Manassa and Christina (Michael Houle) Manassa; grandchildren, Lori Gillespie, Billy and David Sohm, Danielle Pol and Rochelle Blanco and 5 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 10, 2011 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Claude McEldowney officiating.
