John Henderson Kent, Sr., 82, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. He was born in Lynchburg, VA and raised in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; John has lived in Jacksonville since 1950. He served full-time for 38 years with the Florida Air National Guard, along with active duty in the United States Air Force. He was a long-time member of Cedar Hills Baptist Church, where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, as well as on many committees. John is survived by his wife and partner of 63 years, Evelyn Blanche Hayman Kent; sister, Romola (Clair) Eaton; daughter, Mary Forrest; son, John H. Kent, Jr.; grandchildren, Amanda Forrest and Aaron Forrest; great-grandchildren, Dillon Arthur and Ian Edmonson with extended family including three nieces and four nephews. A celebration of John’s life and homegoing will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 1:00 pm in Cedar Hills Baptist Church, 4200 Jammes Road, Jacksonville, FL, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to the Benevolence Fund of Cedar Hills Baptist Church. Interment will be held at a later date in the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
