Dr. John McMillan Malone

Dr. John McMillan Malone, MD, 91, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away on May 2, 2012 at his daughter's home near Summerville, GA. He was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama, on October 4, 1920 to parents Dr. John Milton Malone (1888-1982) and Everett Gilder Malone (1894-1988). After receiving a BS degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1941 and Doctor of Medicine from Emory University School of Medicine in 1944, he served as Medical Officer aboard a US Navy fleet oiler in the Pacific from 1945-1946. In 1946, he established a private medical practice in Green Cove Springs. Following brief service in the Navy during the Korean conflict in 1953, he continued his private practice until 1977. John supported the establishment of the Clay Memorial Hospital in 1959 and served on the hospital staff. After leaving private practice, John was Executive Medical Director of the Clay County Public Health Unit from 1977 until his retirement in 1990 and Medical Director of the Green Cove Springs Geriatric Center from 1976-1984. Throughout his life he was active in community service. He served on the board of Clay County Red Cross Chapter, Chairman of the Clay County Medical Society, and was a member of the Clay County Development Authority. In addition to his love of his medical practice, patients, and community, John was also an avid fisherman and golfer. John and his wife Angelyn spent many hours making their river front home built in 1955 a showcase of citrus trees, banana trees, flowers and flowering shrubs. John is preceded in death by his lovely wife Angelyn who passed away on January 15, 2007 after 62 years of marriage and sisters Bess Malone McCorstin and Martha Malone Nez. He is survived by his son John Murray Malone, Bremerton, WA, and his daughter Kay Malone Kendzor, Summerville, GA. He has one grandchild, John Matthew Malone, and two great grandchildren, John Mabrey Malone and Julia Kay Malone, Dillon, MT. Family will receive friends at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Friday, May 11, 2012, between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 2:00pm with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow the service at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Green Cove Springs. Please sign the family's online guest registry at www.broadusraines.com .
