Kenneth W. Sterling Sr., 82, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away August 22, 2012 at the Earl B. Hadlow Center in Jacksonville. He was born in Detroit, MI on January 20, 1930 to the late Samuel and Tressie (Hall) Sterling and had been a resident of Green Cove Springs since 1970 coming from Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Sterling had retired from The United States Navy after serving his country for over 30 years. He was a member of the Cabul Lodge No. 116 F. & A.M., Fleet Reserve, Blue Knights International, and the Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, where he was a former Vice Pres. Mr. Sterling was predeceased by his wife, June Knowles Sterling in 1995 and his son, Kenneth W. Sterling Jr. in 2011. He is survived by his son, Thomas T. Sterling; daughters, Kimberly M. Sterling and Kathryn M. Oppici; step-son, Roy Snelling and his wife, Elaine; step-daughter, Barbara Gee and her husband, Greg; sisters, Margaret Tesch and Shirley Matzewski; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Sunday, August 26, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating.
