Betty Slocum, 75, of Orange Park, FL, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007. She was born on September 2, 1932 in Binghamton, NY to parents, William and Margaret Kane. Mrs. Slocum was a retired bank teller and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Middleburg, FL. She loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Slocum was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, John Joseph Slocum, Sr.; sister, Katherine (Kate) Warren and husband, John; sister, Mary Winterstein and husband, Joseph; brother-in-law, Joseph Sabatino; brother, William Kane and wife, Betty; brother-in-law, Jerry Monroney; brother, John (Bob) Kane; sister-in-law, Nancy Kane and brother, Frank Kane. Survivors include her children, Karen S. Smith-Dealy (Dale) of Green Cove Springs, FL, Cathy M. Slocum of Baltimore, MD, John J. Slocum, Jr. (Shawn) of Middleburg, FL and Mark J. Slocum (Joelene Smith) of Atlanta, GA; sister, Margaret (Rita) Sabatino, sister, Jean Monroney, sister-in-law, Mary Kane, brother, Jerry Kane (Sally), brother, James Kane, sister-in-law, Judy Kane, sister, Ellen Mitchell (John), brother, Richard (Dick) Kane (Joni) and sister, Judith (Judy) Simma John (Jack); grandchildren, Herbert R. Smith, III, Ryan T. Smith (Heather Laird), Stacey Nicole Smith, Alex B. Slocum, Mark J. Slocum, Jr., Joseph C. Slocum, Tyler A. Slocum, Shannon N. Slocum and Michael S. Slocum and step-granddaughters, Mallori N. Dealy and Emily K. Dealy. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 3, 2007 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Father Edward K. Rooney and Reverend Paul Abernathy officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org) or the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
