Polly Carson, 88, of Penney Farms Retirement Community, passed away Monday, November 19, 2007. She was born on September 29, 1919 in Benton, IL to parents, Elmer and Ada Joplin. She married C. Robert “Kit” Carson, and together, they worked with an orphanage in the Kentucky Mountains. Kit served as a United Methodist Church Minister and Polly was a devoted pastor’s wife. She and Kit moved to Penney Farms Retirement Community six years ago from Silver Springs, FL. Polly was a member of the United Methodist Women (formerly the W.S.C.S.) for over forty years and served as District Officer for several years. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed sewing and volunteer work. Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. Mrs. Carson was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ada Joplin and her husband, C. Robert “Kit” Carson. Survivors include her sons, Stephen L. Carson (Virginia) of LaPine, AL and Charles Robert Carson (Annelies) of Schoolcraft, MI; brother, Elmer Joplin (Dorothy) of Bourbonnais, IL; grandchildren, Beverly Copeland (Russell), Miriam Patterson (Christopher), Christopher Carson (Pam), Sarah Carson and Heidi Curtis (Jeff) and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Lauren and Jacob Curtis, Gerrit Carson, James, Shaunna and Russell Copeland and Hannah Patterson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Ivan Kurtz and Chaplain Al Larson officiating. Interment will follow in the Penney Farms Retirement Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society or Glioblastoma Brain Tumor research.
