Shirley Jeanne Schaub Staifer

March 2, 1930 — October 8, 2012

Shirley Jeanne Schaub Staifer entered eternal life on October 8, 2012. She was born on March 2, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Lawrence Charles Schaub and Pauline Rose Meyer. She married the love of her life, Daniel Staifer on September 15, 1951. They were married over 52 years at the time of Daniel’s passing in October, 2003. Shirley was an “old fashioned” homemaker for her husband and children and enjoyed pinochle with her family. She and Dan enjoyed hosting barbecues in the summer for family and friends. No one could beat Shirley’s baked beans…even now. A member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for 50 years, she loved worshipping the Lord, especially at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Sylvania, Ohio. In February 1995, she was accepted into membership of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was the direct descendant of 3 Revolutionary War Patriots and proudly remained active in her Chapter to this day. Shirley’s other passion was the Detroit Red Wings and she purchased the hockey channel every year to watch every game. She loved animals and rescued many cats and dogs over the years bringing them into her home and loving them back to health. Shirley loved to travel and was able to visit many places in Europe. After Daniel’s passing, she moved to San Diego, California, then to Fleming Island, Florida. One of the highlights of her travels was visiting Hollywood, California and the tour of the movie stars’ homes. She also loved visiting her Schaub ancestral home in Alsace, France. Dan and Shirley were blessed with two children, Cynthia (David) Addison and Daniel (Victoria) Staifer. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Daniel (Lori) Staifer, Derek (Christina) Staifer, Desiree Staifer, Venessa Jacobs and 2 great-grandsons, William Owen Staifer and Ian Diedrich Staifer. She is also survived by her cat, Puffie. Memorial gifts can be made to the King of Glory Lutheran Church, 6517 Brint Road, Sylvania, Ohio 43560, St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1614 Blanding Boulevard, Middleburg, Florida 32068 or the Sophia Fleming Chapter NSDAR Scholarship Fund, 2243Gray Fox Court, Orange Park, Florida 32073.
