George Chope, 75, of Orange Park, FL and formerly a longtime resident of Olivehurst, CA, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007. He was born on March 11, 1932 in Binghamton, NY to parents, Harry and Eva Chope. Mr. Chope had retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service and was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran. Following his military service, he worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 13 years. He moved to the Orange Park, FL area 4 ½ years ago from Olivehurst, CA and was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid fan of the Yankees, Boston Celtics and the University of Notre Dame and dearly loved his family, dogs, bowling and shooting pool. Mr. Chope was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, John Chope. Survivors include his loving wife, Rita D. Utley; sons, George and Michael Chope; daughters, Anna Marie Pitman, Patty Bishop and Victoria Chope-Cox and her husband, William; in-laws, Charles and Dorene Cox; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
