RAWDON “JIMMY” WINSTON
Mr. Jimmy Winston passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2007 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center.
He was born in Desloge, Missouri on July 14, 1920 to the parents of Walter and Stella. He lived to the age of 87 years of age.
Jimmy grew up in Bonne Terre, MO and in May of 1941 when he was 21 years old, he entered basic training in the U.S. Marine Corps. I have to share this one thing about when he was serving in the Phillipines. Jimmy said, that he had vivid memories of a time when he was in a fox hole and his enemy looked him straight in the eyes – he said there eyes met, and there eyes spoke the same language – I don’t want to be here any more than you do.” And the young man walked away!
After his return from WWII, he went to work with Southern Pacific Railroad in Los Angeles, CA. He married Betty Larue and they had one son, Gordon, who now lives in Davenport, Iowa.
After 15 years with the railroad, Jimmy worked for the Los Angeles School Systems as a painter.
About 1972, Jimmy was a single man again, and he had a couple of friends who wanted to go to a Singles Dance in Aneheim, so Jimmy told them he would go, but if he didn’t meet a pretty red head, he was going back. Well, needless to say, he did meet a pretty little redhead by the name of Terri Crossland.
Over time their relationship grew and they were finally married after 4 years of courtship in a little chapel called the CANDLE LIGHT WEDDING CHAPEL, in Las Vegas, NV, by wouldn’t you know it, a pretty little red headed preacher! A memorial service will be held in the Moosehaven Chapel on Wednesday January 9, 2008 at 2:00 pm officiated by Reverend Helen Taylor
