Herbert Doyle Driggers, 83, of Perry, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2012. He was born to parents Everett and Pitie Driggers on April 4, 1929, in Bostwick, Florida. Herbert was a Forest Ranger with the Florida Forestry Service for many years. Later he owned Cove Auto Supply in Green Cove Springs, Florida, before changing his career to nursing. He graduated from FCCJ in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1971, with a degree in nursing. He enjoyed a long career in the health field and retired as House Supervisor at Methodist Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Herbert spent time fishing at his home on the St. Johns River in Green Cove Springs where he and his wife often entertained family and friends. He took inspiration from the river and portrayed its beauty in many of his paintings. He lived a long and good life with a deep love for his family and God. He abides in Heaven and is now at peace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Pitie Driggers; brother, Robert M. Driggers; and son, Larry Driggers. Herbert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen; daughter, Sheila (Randy) Burkhalter; grandson, Ryan (Sherrie) Burkhalter; great grandchildren, Allison Barnhart and Cameron McClain Burkhalter; great step-grandchildren, Kyle Doan, Jacob Fullerton and R.J. Kallina; sisters, Faye Minotti and Lila Mae Messer; sister-in-law, Irene Thomas; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral Services will immediately follow in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Rev. Bobby Baker officiating. There will be no graveside service. Interment will be in Decoy Baptist Church Cemetery.
