Stephens “Cary” McColskey, 85, of Jacksonville, FL passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008. Cary was born in Jacksonville, FL to parents Stephens and Schelley McColskey on December 6, 1922. He honorably served his nation in The United States Army and was a World War II veteran. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Georgia and later began a career as a purchasing agent for The State of Florida. Cary had been a member of St. John’s Baptist Church for forty years, and twelve years ago he became a member and deacon of Hyde Park Baptist Church. Cary was a compassionate man and often visited hospitals when he heard of others that were ill. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and camping, but above all, he loved spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend; he will be deeply missed. Cary was preceded in death by his parents; and by his daughter, Linda L. Humphrey; and by his brother, Guy McColskey. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty two years, Peggy McColskey; three sons: Mark “Steve” McColskey (Paula) of Switzerland, FL, James “Craig” McColskey (Florence “Flo”) of Orange Park, FL, John D. Wood (Mary) of Fernandina Beach, FL; his son-in-law, Dale Humphrey of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, John C. McColskey (Sarah) of Jacksonville; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 2000 Lane Avenue S., Jacksonville, on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 officiated by Reverend Adam Scott. Interment with military honors will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to charity are appreciated.
