Betty Dennard Mordente 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 11 February, 2013. Betty, a native of Jacksonville graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and from there went on to a promising job with AT&T. Soon after, she married Joe whose career in the military service allowed them to travel extensively. Upon military retirement they resettled in Florida.
Throughout her life she remained active in her local church community as a Eucharistic minister, former president of the USAFA Parents Association for North Florida, and genealogical researcher who was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Daughter of the Confederacy. For 15 years she was a Red Cross volunteer at NAS JAX. She served as substitute teacher and secretary at local Catholic schools. Her hobbies were cooking, knitting, gardening, exercising, ceramics, and crafting of all types.
Betty is survived by her husband, Joe, of 64 years, her daughter, BJ, her sons, Brig Gen (Select) Pat, Marc, and Darrell, her son-in-law John, her daughters-in-law, Marissa, Deborah, and Helen, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many friends who loved her.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 US Highway 17 South, Fleming Island, FL 32003 at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013.
In lieu of flowers and because of her heart for those in need, the family requests contributions be given to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, care of Father Scott Donahue, 1140 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, IL 60607-2906 or St. Labre Indian School Ashland, Montana 59004.
Betty was a greatly loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We love you, Nana.
