Mrs. Nelda J. Smith passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 12, 2013. Nelda was born to Judge Ralph and Mable Jenner on November 24, 1926 in Oklahoma. She attended Oklahoma University and then went onto Western Kentucky University, where she attained her degree in education. While in college, she met her beloved husband, Thomas E. Smith while working at a popcorn stand. She taught English and was the librarian at Charles E. Bennett Elementary School before retiring in 1991 to care for her ailing husband. She touched the lives of many children, helping them to read and understand the English language. She always wore a smile on her face. She believed a child’s early education was the key to success later in life and loved working with them. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom and her son, Scott Smith Sr. She is survived by her siblings Joan Foster, Dr. Ralph Jenner II, Joy Marshall and Ray Jenner and grandson, Scott L. Smith Jr., along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Hickory Grove Cemetery with Rev. Joe Barrie officiating.
