Garland D. Swanson, former Granville, Ohio resident, passed away March 21, 2008 at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, FL.
He was born November 2, 1934 in Lyons, NE, the son of Emel and Cora Swanson (deceased). Deceased siblings include Eloise Knox and Gloria Peoschl.
Surviving family members include his wife of 44 years, Loretta A. (Overly) Swanson of Penney Farms, FL; his son, Kevin D. Swanson of Penney Farms, FL; his son, Kelly V. Swanson and partner, Dell Smith, of Columbus, OH; his brothers, Bernard Swanson of Grand Island, NE, Verlyn Swanson of Omaha, NE, and Robert Swanson of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
Garland graduated from Lyons High School in 1952 and Grand Island Business College in 1954.
He served in The United States Army in Germany from 1957-1959. He retired after 31 years of service at the Newark Air Force Base in Heath, OH in 1993. He went on to work at Kroger in Columbus, OH after retirement. After moving to Florida in 1997, he worked at Publix in Oak Leaf Shopping Center in Orange Park and Middleburg, FL. He was one of the first volunteers to become active in the VIP Patrol at Penney Farms.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Penney Memorial Church, of which he was a member.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to P.E.T. (Personal Energy Transport) PO Box 919, Penney Farms, FL 32079. This gift will provide dignity and hope to individuals receiving a P.E.T., as well as to their families and communities.
