Jack Baxter Thrift, 82, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2008. He was born on August 29, 1925 in Washington, DC to parents, Athol and Doris Thrift. Mr. Thrift served his country in the United States Navy, Air Force and National Guard as well as being a World War II Veteran. He had lived in the area for 65 years, moving here from Mt. Rainer, Maryland. He was a member of the American Legion and the Blood Bank Gallon Club. He fought cancer with courage and dignity and was known as one of the best specification writers in SE Florida. He was responsible for the specs on many structures in Jacksonville, including the original Friendship Fountain. He was an avid reader and history buff. Mr. Thrift was a devoted husband of 64 years and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Angie Longo Thrift; daughter, Kathi D. Brooks (Michael A.); grandchildren, Shawn and Christian Weatherford and Peter Meisinger and great-grandchildren, Andre, Alex and Seleena Meisinger. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Saturday, March 29, 2008 (Today) at VFW Wesconnett Post 7909, 6204 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32244.
