Maj. John L. Daigle, Sr. (Ret.)

US Army Maj. (Ret.) John L. Daigle, Sr., 84, of Green Cove Springs died June 17, 2013 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Brainerd, Minn. June 13, 1930 to the late Raymond and Elizabeth Daigle and received a master's degree in business from the University of Minnesota. He served 26 years in the U.S. Army including three combat tours in Korea and Vietnam earning numerous awards including the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star. He married the former Jane Christensen and they raised six children during 56 years of marriage. He was also a business owner and avid tennis player for more than 40 years in Green Cove Springs before retiring last fall. Maj. Daigle is survived by his wife Jane, his sister Loraine, six children: David Daigle of Stone Mountain, Georgia; James Daigle of Green Cove Springs; Steve Daigle of Juneau, Alaska; Janet Draisey of Green Cove Springs; John Daigle, Jr. of Jacksonville; and Renee Daigle Harrell of Jacksonville. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. His ashes will be interred with military honors at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at later date. A Mass will be held in his honor at Sacred Heart Catholic Mission Church in Green Cove Springs, FL at 10:00 am on Friday, June 21, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to National Association of Senior Veterans 5000-18 Highway 17 #231 Fleming Island, Fl 32003.
