David Lloyd Heney

David Lloyd Heney, Age 68, passed away peacefully on July 16 2013. Born on July 4, 1945, David grew up in Green Cove Springs, Florida. He was preceded in death by parents William P. Heney and Myrtis Truett Heney, and brother Edward. He is survived by his daughter Jessica Heney. As a musician, teacher, and friend he touched many lives throughout the duration of his own. He had a career in music and music education, and came from a musical family. He graduated in 1963 from Clay High School and went on to enlist in the Army Reserve as well as attend both the University of Florida and Jacksonville University, earning a degree in music. David was also an avid sports fan, Civil War buff, and a longtime fan of the Florida Gators. His father William P. and his Uncle John Heney founded the Florida Bandmaster’s Association. David continued tradition by incorporating music heavily into his life and in the lives of those around him. Music brought him joy, and he passed that passion on to his students, friends, and family. He will be truly missed. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service in his honor at Broadus-Raines Funeral home 501 Spring Street, Green Cove Springs, Florida 32043, at 11am Saturday morning, July 27th. A reception to celebrate his life will be held directly afterwards at the Elks Lodge, 702 S Orange Ave, Green Cove Springs (284-9049).
