Richard Henry Hiles

Richard Henry Hiles, 91, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away peacefully on July 25, 2013 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, FL. He was born on October 11, 1921 in Oakland, CA to parents Elton and Ruth McGurdy Hiles. Richard served his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps as a Marksman and was a WW II Veteran. He was retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in California after 30 years of service. He had lived in Green Cove Springs since 1981, which he had become to love as his home. Richard attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church where he was a member and was a volunteer for many years at the Green Cove Food Pantry. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Myrtle Hiles and his second wife Thelma Hendricks Hiles. Richard will be dearly missed by all his loving family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth (Richard) Churchill of Union City, CA; stepchildren, Jack (Annette) Mears of Jacksonville, FL, Darlene (Jay) Welch of Montana and Tommy (Claudia) Mears of Ohio, and dear friends and caregivers Carolyn and Cathy Roberts. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Russell Franklin officiating visitation will be in the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery with military honors. Please sign the family’s online guest registry at www.broadusraines.com.
