James "Jimmy" Edward Knight

James “Jimmy” Edward Knight, 69, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a valiant fight with cancer on Thursday, August 22, 2013. He was born on August 13, 1944 in Jacksonville, FL to parents, David Sherwood and Evelyn Guthrie Knight. He coached Pop Warner football and baseball at Carl Pugh Park for many years and was a lifelong resident of Green Cove Springs. Mr. Knight worked as a supervisor of electric for the City of Green Cove Springs and retired after 39 years of service. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the City of Green Cove Springs for 15 years. Jimmy enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend to his extended family and friends. He would never hesitate to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. Mr. Knight was predeceased by his parents, wife, Carolyn Knight; sister, Glenda Knight and brother Gary Knight. Survivors include his son, James “Jimbo” Edward Knight II; daughter, Stacie Knight Harper; brothers, Donald (Connie) Knight, Mike (Linda) Knight, Terry (Karla) Knight, Timothy (Loretta) Knight and Tony (Karen) Knight; grandchildren; Sage, Zaye, Ivee and Kaid; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to all of the Haven Hospice staff especially Donna and Jennifer who helped them through this difficult time. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Monday, August 26, 2013 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Russell Baptist Church with Reverend Charlie Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Custead Care Center Haven Hospice 741 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32065.
