Charles Rallis, 90, of Orange Park, Florida passed away August 24, 2013.
He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on May 5, 1923 to the late Helen Rallis. He was the youngest of 4 children, and his 2 brothers and 1 sister preceded him in death.
At a young age, he worked in the CCCs. He joined the Army and served in World War 2 both overseas and in the Pentagon.
He lived for over 50 years in State College, Pennsylvania. He was active in his community. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Alpha Fire Company for 15 years. He worked as a chef and baker at Penn State University. Alongside his wife, he ran the Center County Country Club. He worked as the Plant Manager at Erie Technology, as well as at Center Engineering, from where he retired at the age of 70.
He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, and was active in starting a satellite church in Center County. He was a life member, serving over 58 years in the VFW, American Legion, Masons and Elks.
He was known by his close friends and family as the “Little Greek”. His home and his heart were always open to those that he loved. Whether he was sharing a meal with you or teaching you how to garden, he gave all that he had.
He loved his family and enjoyed the many aspects of life. He had a love for sports (especially Penn State football, which he attended all home games for over 30 years) and enjoyed watching all sports. He loved to play golf, billiards, and darts (for which he won many trophies), he also enjoyed hunting and deep sea fishing. But most of all, he especially loved cooking and gardening.
He was a man that lived life to the fullest. He worked hard. He gave all that he had to any task or situation with vigor, boldness, strength and tenacity.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kathryn Casper Rallis; sons, Charles (Joyce) Rallis and Christos (Gloria) Rallis; daughters, Helen (James) Mueller and Georgia (Jonas) Palin; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by all those that had the opportunity to know him, love him, and share his life with him.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Jonas R. Palin officiating. Masonic Rites will be rendered. Interment with military honors will be held that afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
