Mary Evelyn Thornton

Mary Evelyn Thornton, 82, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. She was born on April 13, 1931 in Jacksonville, FL to parents, Nathan Abner and Edna Hysler Yarbrough. She was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL and was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Thornton was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herman Bilford Thornton, sons, Albert and Billy Thornton. Survivors include her children, Vernida (Eddie) Foster, Cynthia Cox, Herman Thornton, Jr. and Nathan (Lannie) Thornton; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 5, 2013 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 6, 2013 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Ronnie Surrency officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park.
