William F. Hicks

William “Bill” F. Hicks, 89, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008. He was born on October 8, 1918 in Athens, AL to parents, Lewell and Lila Hicks. Mr. Hicks worked in lumber sales and had lived in the local area since 1947, moving here from Athens, AL. He was a member, deacon and trustee at First Baptist Church of Green Cove Springs and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Hicks had written helpful hints columns called Mr. 2x4 by Bill Hicks in the Clay County Crescent and was a very good handy man around his house. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 ½ years, Robbie L. Hicks; son, Robert L. Hicks, Sr. (Jean) of Green Cove Springs, FL; daughter, Betty Ann Hicks of Fleming Island, FL; brother, James W. Hicks (Clara) of Athens, AL; sister, Leura Mae Gordon of Athens, AL; 2 grandchildren, Theresa Jude (Willie) and Robert Hicks, Jr. (Lisa); 2 great-grandchildren, Jessica Jude and Matthew Robert Hicks and 3 step-great-grandchildren, Gabby, Simon and Evan. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 16, 2008 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Rev. Sam Castaño officiating. Interment will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
