Charles H. Alcanter, 94, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away September 22, 2013. He was born on September 21, 1919 in Tucson, AZ to parents Frank and Helen Higuer Alcanter. Mr. Alcanter was a World War II, Korean and Vietnam War Veteran, having retired from the United States Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer with 30 years of service to his country. He had lived in the local area since 1958, moving here from the Aleutian Islands. He loved boating, golfing, fishing, traveling and was an avid history buff. Mr. Alcanter was a Master Mason, Life member of the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, member of the Elks Lodge, the Rotary Club, the University Club, VFW as well as the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son, Richard P. Alcantara. Survivors include his sons, Charles C. Alcantara, Bobby Alcantara, Johnnie Alcantara, Charles E. Alcanter and Paul Guy Alcanter; daughters, Linda Kay Alcanter and Barbara Lynette Alcanter McClure; brother, Francis A. Alcanter; sister, Lilly Murphy; 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 27, 2013 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating.
