Gene Johns

Gene Johns, 64, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008. Mr. Johns was born to parents Laten and Mildred Johns on May 20, 1944 in Sheffield, AL and was raised in the Clay County area. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and resided with Charles and Betty Todd. Gene honorably served his nation in The Army National Guard and most recently worked in Signal Maintenance with Clay County Public Works. He loved working with the County and he also loved coon hunting in his spare time. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother Charles R. “Pete” Johns; and by two half-sisters: Jessie Todd and Vera Mae Newman. He is survived by one brother: Leamon Johns; two half-brothers: Tommy and Dewayne Teague; his nephew and niece: Charles and Betty Todd; and many beloved family members and friends. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the Broadus-Raines Chapel on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 10:00 am officiated by Reverend James Tomlinson and Reverend Willie L. Philips. Interment will follow in Sharon Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: W.L. Phillips, Steve Loner, Willie Hampshire, Richie Norman, Larry Murphy, and Joel Bush.
