Michael William Sands passed away on Saturday February 15, 2014. He was born on December 23, 1954 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL to parents Courtland and Jane Sands. Michael was raised in Jacksonville and attended secondary school at Christ the King and graduated from Terry Parker High School (Class of 73’). He graduated college from Chaminade University in Honolulu, HI. Michael was a Sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Air Force, he worked as a Forensic Investigator for the Medical Examiner’s office for 20 years. He walked the line like it was a mile wide and lived life to the fullest. He was truly loved by all who knew him. His enormous heart had room for all. His humor reminded us to stop and appreciate the important moments in life. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy, son Christopher, sister Karen Holt (Bruce), father in law Robert McCort, sisters in law Kathy Walston, Shirley Shevada (Tom), Linda Couchot (Scott) and several nieces, nephews and extended family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, February 21, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church located at 742 Arlington Rd in Jacksonville with Fr. James R. Boddie, Jr. as Celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of sending flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project located at 4899 Belfort Rd #300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
