Anna Susan Houtsma

August 20, 1915 — February 22, 2014

Anna passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 22, 2014 at Moosehaven Life Care Center. Her daughter, Kathy was by her side. Anna was 98 years old. Born to Octavas and Carrie Folker on August 20, 1915 in McIntosh County, Ga., Anna married to Jacob James Houtsma on September 15, 1937. They had three daughters, Sue, Jeanette, and Kathy. They lived in Green Cove Springs, Florida since the early 1950's. Anna and Jacob "Slim" were long time members of Russell Baptist Church. Anna enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She could often be found in her kitchen making wonderful dishes for holidays and family gatherings in their home on the St. Johns River. Anna made the most delicious pies and cookies. People would call in advance and ask her to make her wonderful Coconut or Lemon Meringue pies! Anna was preceded in death by her husband Jacob on May 2, 1991 and her daughter, Jeanette Sturgeon on December 16, 2006. Anna came to Moosehaven on July 27, 2000 and resided there for 13 years. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Moosehaven Chapel. Rev. Ron Baker will be officiating followed by burial services at Russell Baptist Church Cemetery. Anna will be missed by surviving family members, her two daughters, Sue Wolfe of Hendersonville, TN and Kathy Houtsma of Williston, Fla. four grandchildren, Denise Ludwig of Grapevine, TX, Kevin Sturgeon of San Antonio, TX, Joe Wolfe of Jacksonville, Fla. and Brian Sturgeon of Jacksonville, Fla., also three great-grandchildren, Amanda and Denali Sturgeon of San Antonio and Jacob Sturgeon of Jacksonville, Fla.
