Reginald "Reggie" Parkhouse

Pilgrim Reginald “Reggie” Parkhouse passed away April 10, 2014 in the Orange Park Medical Center at the age of 91. He was born to William and Edith Parkhouse on February 6, 1923 in a City in the County of Devon, England, United Kingdom. He was their only child. Reggie married Ruth Worrall on February 13, 1943. They had two daughters Jean, Anne and son, Ron. Ruth preceded him in death on June 5, 2008. He served in the British Army during World War II in Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli. The “Black Cat 56th, London Division” which included Reggie’s Regiment of the Grenadier Guards was seconded to the American 5th Army under the command of General Mark Clarke and was responsible for the landings at Salerno, Italy, forming a Bridgehead. After he was discharged from the Army, Reggie and Ruth moved to Reggie’s home town of Exeter and he set up a shoe repair business, which developed into three shops and he retired in 1988. In 1974 the Lord Chancellor of England appointed Reggie as one of her Majesties Magistrates, a position that entailed much learning and dedication to the keeping of Law and Order. He retired from the Bench at the age of 72 in 1995. Reggie became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on November 7, 1957 when he joined the Exeter Lodge #132. Later he transferred to General Assembly, Illinois Lodge #3000. He became a member of the Legion of the Moose as it was then known in March 1958. He was Governor in 1965 and an active member of the Lodge House Committee for 11 years. Reggie received his Fellowship degree of Honor on April 15, 1972 and his Pilgrim degree of Merit on May 28, 1988. Reggie was a Past Grand Governor of the Grand Lodge of Great Britain. He served in the office of Administrator of Moosehaven Opportunity Lodge #3001 from April 1997 until April 2009. Reggie was an active member of Seminole Moose Legion #81, having transferred from British Moose Legion #1 in 1996. He was an Assistant Moose Legion Secretary and was responsible for many Moosehaven residents joining Seminole Moose Legion. He came to Moosehaven with his wife Ruth on October 20, 1996 where he resided for 17 and 1/2 years. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 3:00 PM in the Moosehaven Chapel and conducted by Rev. Helen Taylor and Pilgrims of Opportunity Lodge. Reggie is survived by his daughters Jean Warren, Anne (Reg) Edwardson and son Ron (Sue) Parkhouse and 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
