Tom Tompkins

March 16, 1940 — July 25, 2008

Tom Tompkins, 68, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away Friday, July 25, 2008. Mr. Tompkins was born to George and Wanetta Tompkins on March 16, 1940 in Mapelton, ME and moved to the Lake Asbury area fifteen years ago. Tom honorably served his nation in The United States Air Force and retired in 1983. Later he began a career with Civil Service as an Industrial Engineering Technologist and retired in 2007. Mr. Tompkins was a founding father of Hibernia Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was also a member of The American Legion and he enjoyed working on computers and was an avid stamp collector. Survivors include his beloved wife of forty years, Carol Tompkins; two sons: Anthony George (Charity) Tompkins and Matthew Ryan (Wendy) Tompkins; one brother, Rick Tompkins; two sisters, Jan Cantrell and Launa (Paul) Greenier; and four grandchildren: Chandler, Kyrie, Monica, and Abigail. The family will receive friends in the chapel of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 from 9:00 until 11:00 am. Funeral services will be held at Hibernia Baptist Church on Friday, August 1, 2008 at 10:00 am officiated by Pastor Scott Yirka. Interment with military honors will follow at 2:30 pm in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to NE FL Community Hospice (904) 886-3883 or to The American Diabetes Association 1-800-DIABETES are appreciated by his family.
