Howell Lamar "Sonny" Morris Jr.

Howell Lamar Morris, Jr. “Sonny”, 45, of St. Johns, FL passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was a native of Jacksonville, FL. Sonny was the devoted husband of 25 years to his high school sweetheart, Marsha Ashe Morris. He was the proud and loving father to daughter Meagan Collier (Anthony); sons Richard “Dillon” Morris (Amber) and LCpl Mitchell Morris. He was the delighted Papaw of grandson Josiah Wayne Collier. Sonny was employed by JEA, Water Treatment South Grid, for 18 years. He attended FSCJ and Flagler College and was licensed as a Master Electrician. Sonny showed the love of Christ through his humility and many acts of compassion. He actively attended FBC Jax and was a regular volunteer in his community, namely with The Blood Alliance, Community Hospice of NE Florida, The Red Cross, Sidewalk Funday School (an afterschool ministry program), and Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief. He was a gifted musician and a self-taught guitarist. He enjoyed playing for family, friends, and nursing home residents. Sonny was selflessly devoted to his family and commonly put the needs of others first. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Glen Morris; paternal grandparents, Jessie and Sallie Morris; maternal grandparents David and Margie Marchalleck. He is survived by his parents Howell Lamar and Linda Morris; brother, Jason Morris; sisters, Rachel Gupton (Neal), Jennifer Rowland (Peyton), and Sarah Morris; eight nephews, six nieces and one great-niece. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Tim Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.
