Alfred James "Jim" Lyons

October 3, 1923 — May 4, 2014

Alfred James Lyons, known as “Jim” to most of his friends, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2014. He lived a very full life and now will be joined with his wife Helen who preceded him in passing 10 years ago. Jim was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 3, 1923 and served in the United States Army during WWII. He spent many years as a diesel mechanic prior to retiring to live in Orange Springs, FL (Lake Hewitt) until he moved to Green Cove Springs, FL in 2004. He was preceded in passing by two sisters, Maggie Williams and Annie Jones. He is survived by his sister, Juanita Driskell and brother, William (Billy) Lyons; daughters, Jimmie Nell Rust Atkinson (Neal Atkinson) and Diann Elizabeth Singletary (Bill Singletary); grandsons, Jeffrey Rust (Leandra Rust) and Robert Burkhalter; great-granddaughter, Amber Rust. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and I am sure he would say to anyone reading this, we should all be fortunate enough to live a life like his. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Pastor Lloyd Dean officiating. Jim will be buried next to his wife in Anthony Cemetery in Anthony, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Pentecostal Church, 5945 Hwy 17 S, Green Cove Springs, FL 32043. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusrianes.com. Arrangements under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 (904) 284-4000.
