James L. Hinson, Ret. U.S. Navy, 76, of Middleburg, Florida passed away on June 22, 2014. Jim was born on July 30, 1937 in Alamo, Georgia to the late Ewart G. and Ruth Hinson. He attended Union Elementary School in Wheeler County and graduated from McRae-Helena High School on June 3, 1955. Following graduation, he served in the U. S. Navy and after 26 ½ years as an Aviation Electrician Senior Chief, he retired in 1979. In addition to his military career, he worked for 19 plus years for the U.S. Postal Service Bulk Mail Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Jim spent many summers at the beach and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. Mr. Hinson is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Diane Hinson; his brother Charles E. Hinson and wife Myrna of Stone Mountain, Georgia; his special sister-in-law, Mary E. Stephens and nephew, James C. Stephens, special brother-in-law Alfred W. Petty Jr. and wife Julia all of the Jacksonville area. In addition, he is survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews and very special lifelong friends. He will always be remembered as Uncle Jim or Big Jim. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or any organization of your choice. A visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel.
