Robert S. "Bob" Waldron

February 23, 1929 — August 29, 2008

Robert S. “Bob” Waldron, AOCS, USN (Ret), 79, was born on Feb. 23, 1929 in Newburgh, NY and died peacefully Aug. 29, 2008 after a long battle with cancer. He served as an aviation ordnance man during WWII, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Sr. Chief after 24 years of service. He received many medals of commendation for his service in war zones and elsewhere. He then entered a civil service position with the New York State Dept. of Labor as a manager and special assistant to the administrator of the Veterans Employment Service, where he received special recognition for his assistance in writing the Veterans Bill of Rights for the State of N.Y. He retired from that position in 1989 after 20 years of service. After his military retirement, he resided in Catskill, NY and is a Past Exalted Ruler of the Catskill Elks Lodge. Mr. Waldron moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1993. Bob loved the Lord and his family with all his might and was an active member of Hibernia Baptist Church, Fleming Island, FL. He is survived by his loving wife, Ellie; brother, Bill (Dorothy) Waldron; sister, Betty Stradtner; daughters, Robin (Dan) Peck, Deborah (Richard) Rosenquest; sons, Michael (Judy) Langley, John (Martha) Langley and Sam (Anne) Langley; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Hibernia Baptist Church, 7100 Hwy. 17 So., Fleming Island, FL 32003. Full military honors will be conferred at the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 or the American Cancer Society, 1536 Kingsley Ave., Ste. 123, Orange Park, FL 32073. Following cremation, Bob’s ashes will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.
