Dr. William Stephen (Bill) Bazley, 75, of Green Cove Springs, FL, passed away at home on August 6, 2014. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to parents Alvin Edward Bazley (1909-1954) and Amelia (Mildred) Cooper Bazley (1909-1998). He moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL with his parents and younger brothers in 1950. After graduating from Duncan U. Fletcher High School in 1956 he entered the United States Marine Corps. He served until 1958, was honorably discharged and began college at Jacksonville University. Dr. Bazley graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1965 followed by his internship at Duval Medical Center and then established a private general medicine practice in Green Cove Springs. After two years, he and his family moved to Phoenix, Arizona to continue his education and to begin an obstetrics & gynecology residency at Maricopa County General Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, he took a medical faculty position with the St. Louis University School of Medicine as instructor in the Ob/Gyn Department. In 1972, Dr. Bazley and his family returned to Clay County and he established his Ob/Gyn practice with offices in Orange Park and Green Cove Springs, FL until 1993. He took a locum tenens position in the Ob/Gyn Department at the Minot, ND Medical Clinic from 1993-1999 and retired in 1999.
Dr. Bazley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fleming Island, FL. Throughout his life he was active in community service. He was a member of and held leadership positions in various civic, community, and professional organizations, including Clay County Fair Association, Clay County Medical Society, and Rotary Club of Orange Park, Sunrise.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joan Bucke Bazley, four brothers Thomas E. Bazley (Elaine), John A. Bazley (Nancy), James A. Bazley (Jean) and Robert D. Bazley (Pat), four children, a son John A. Bazley (Amy), a son Stephen B. Bazley, a daughter Amelia B. Connolly (Mike) and a son Mathew C. Bazley (Donna), 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Broadus-Raines Funeral Home on Sunday, August 10, 2014, between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm (Vigil Service with Rosary at 7:45 pm by Fr. Luke McLoughlin). The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 7190 U.S. 17, Fleming Island, FL 32003 with Fr. Donal Sullivan as celebrant. Interment will be at 3:00 pm at Penney Farms Cemetery in Penney Farms FL. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Clay County Council on Aging, Inc., Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fleming Island, or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
