Jerry Van Deusen

July 20, 1945 — September 2, 2008

Jerry Van Deusen, 63, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008. He was born on July 20, 1945 in Spokane, WA to parents, Frank and Vergie Van Deusen. Jerry served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Navy. He was a wonderful handyman and home remodeler and was the original “House Doctor”. He considered himself a “jack of all trades and master of none”. He had enjoyed CB Radio, fishing, hunting, shrimping, boating, reading and writing poetry, playing violin and guitar, cooking and was a nature lover. Jerry enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Clay Wheel Arounds and Mandarin Marauders. He liked round dancing and was a member of the Diamond Rounds; he also liked to ballroom dance. He was involved with the Kairos Prison Ministry and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #673, the VFW, American Legion and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2020. As the son of an alcoholic, he desired to help others who struggled with their addictions. He was the chairperson of Clay County Jail AA group and an officer in the Orange Park AA club as well as a sponsor in AA. Jerry will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dan Van Deusen. Survivors include his daughters, Julie (Ed) Sander and April (Jeff) Pannone; brother, John Folmer; grandchildren, Zachary Alan Pannone and Annalise Joy Pannone and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2008 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel. Visitation in the chapel on Tuesday will be from 2:00 pm until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadus-Raines Funeral Home toward funeral expenses. Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL 32043 (904) 284-4000. The family will hold a memorial service at The Florida National Cemetery Jacksonville in early 2009.
