Gloria D. Mayer

Gloria D. Mayer, 86, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away October 1, 2014. She was born on August 16, 1928 in Cleveland, OH to parents Anthony and Madeliene Chimera DeJovine. Mrs. Mayer received her degree in Elementary Education in 1950 from Case Western Reserve University. She taught first and second grade from 1950 to 1956 and was chosen to teach Enrichment Classes at East Clark Elementary School in Cleveland, OH. She moved to the local area in 1997 from Cleveland, OH and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island. She was a volunteer for the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs and enjoyed reading biographies, autobiographies and inspirational books. Mrs. Mayer was preceded in death by husband, Nevin C. Mayer and is survived by her children, Nevin Joseph Mayer of Cleveland, OH, Richard Michael Mayer of Jacksonville, FL and Joan Marie Mayer of Jacksonville, FL. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, October 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Donal Sullivan as Celebrant. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Jacksonville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 and/or Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs, 1107 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Green Cove Springs, FL 32043.
