George A Masud

GYSGT George A. Masud USMC, Ret., 88, passed away October 12, 2014. He was born on November 20, 1925 in Warren, RI to parents Charles and Matilda Yeamen Masud. Mr. Masud was a gunnery sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, retiring after 26 years of faithful service to his country. During that time, he proudly served his country as a highly decorated WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam veteran. He was honored as being an inaugural member and Crew Chief of Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), where he was responsible for the safety and transportation of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Vice President, Cabinet members, and VIPs. He was also distinguished as a three time recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary combat heroism with his fellow comrades. Following his military retirement, he worked for Munford, Inc. another 22 years. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, and leaves behind his wife, Ann Masud; children, Georgeann McKenna, Anthony “Tony” Masud, and Monica French; grandchildren, Honay Layman-Stefani, Monique Layman-Boalch, Justin Masud, Megan Masud, Katie French, and Matthew French, along with great-grandchildren, Chancey Boalch, Catilyn Boalch, Steven Gill, and Zachary Stefani. Services will be held at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 11:00am on Thursday, October 23, 2014 with military honors conferred.
