Mary Nichols Goodenow, 87, of Fleming, Island, FL, passed away October 17, 2014. She was born on March 24, 1927 in Bay Shore, NY to parents Frank and Lillian (Holder) Nichols. She had lived in Ft. Pierce, FL prior to moving to Fleming Island 9 years ago. Mrs. Goodenow was a communicant of the Catholic Church and a Charter Member of St. Mark - Evangelist Catholic Church in Ft. Pierce, FL. Mrs. Goodenow had been a teacher and educator in the St. Lucie, FL School System in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s as well as a school board member. She was a member of AAUW, TIGER and FREA as well as a lobbyist for the FEA in Tallahassee, FL. She had received the Woman of the Year Award from the Democratic Women’s Club, was a member of the Learn to Read program and a Friend to the Library in Ft. Pierce and St. Lucie, FL. She was on the Board of Directors for the Abbey Jean Russell Nursing Home and an avid Bridge player. Mrs. Goodenow was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Ralph Goodenow (1996). Survivors include her daughter, Leslie (Greg) Gretz and her son, Kevin (Peg) Goodenow; grandchildren, David Paul Gretz, Danielle Christina Gretz, Casey Bryant Goodenow, Mallory Brooke Goodenow and Justin Spengler. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft. Pierce, FL.
