George Samuel Bunting

George (“Hoagie”) Bunting, Sr May 14, 1933 – December 23, 2014 George (“Hoagie”) Bunting, Sr. passed away December 23, 2014 in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 81. He was born to Wilson E. and Grace Simpson-Bunting on May 14, 1933 in Ellenville, New York. George married Christina Tapley on October 26, 1952. She preceded him in death on November 2, 2008. He served in the Army National Guard as a Corporal in the Battery C 170th Field Artillery Battalion, Fort Drum, New York. He was Honorably Discharged on February 22, 1954. George was employed at the Walden Telephone Company in Walden, New York. He was also a fireman for many years at the Walden Volunteer Fire Dept. Together, George and his wife, Tina, learned how to fly and obtained their private pilot licenses. After moving to Florida he was self-employed as an electrician. He became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose on June 16, 1973 when he joined Fort Myers, Florida Lodge #1899 where he served as Lodge Governor and a member of the Ritual Team – competing in several competitions. He earned his Fellowship Degree on October 21, 1979. He later also became a member of the Cape Coral, Florida Lodge #2199. George came to Moosehaven on April 30, 2009 where he resided for 5 years. He is survived by his two daughters, Susan Allee of Sevierville, Tennessee, Laurie Kleier (Alan Kleier) of Odenton, Maryland and two sons, George Bunting, Jr. of Matlacha, Florida and James Bunting of N. Fort Myers, Florida. He has two grandsons, (Laurie’s sons) Christopher (Rachel) McLean of Rodondo Beach, California, and Patrick McLean of Frederick, Maryland, and two great-grandsons, Brock and Remy McLean. Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Moosehaven Chapel followed interment in the Moosehaven Mausoleum. Services conducted by Rev. Helen Taylor and Officers of Opportunity Lodge.
