Barbara Kanine

Barbara Kanine passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:15 PM in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 79. She was born to Archie and Lottie Schlarf on November 19, 1929 in Ithaca, Michigan. She married Gerald Kanine on January 8, 1949. They had three children, Linda, Cheryl and Kenneth. Gerald preceded her in death on May 31, 1988. Barbara worked as an LPN at the Michigan Masonic Home for twenty one years and retired in 1981. She enjoyed needlepoint and cross-stitch. She became affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose in March, 1976 when she joined St. Louis, Michigan Chapter #1633. Barbara went through all the chairs, receiving her cap and gown in 1984 and her Red Stole in 1988. She was also a Star Recorder. Barbara came to Moosehaven on July 25, 2000 where she resided for 8 years. She loved singing in the choir and enjoyed working in the Video room for several years. She loved being a part of Opportunity Chapter’s Angel pin fund raiser. Arrangements handled by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home. Direct shipment to Alward – Carter Funeral Home, St. Louis, Michigan. A Memorial Service will be held in the Moosehaven Chapel on November 25, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. and will be conducted by Rev. Helen Taylor, and officers of Opportunity Chapter. She is survived by, her children; Linda Rogers, Cheryl Yoger of Michigan and Kenneth Kanine, of California and six grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers Ted and Robert Schlarf and three sisters Shirley Gath, Leona Little, and Harriet Miller all of Michigan.
