Carol McElroy LeFebvre

Carol McElroy LeFebvre, of Green Cove Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Jacksonville. Carol was born Feb. 19, 1937 to Horace and Berta McElroy in Desoto County, Mississippi, where she joined her big sister, Joan. Employment opportunities brought Carol’s family to Orange Park. Carol graduated from Clay High School in 1955. She worked for the phone company in California when she married Vernon James LeFebvre, Jr. in 1958. Carol worked outside the home while raising her family at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Jacksonville and the Food Lion warehouse in Green Cove Springs. She enjoyed a few years retirement in Oklahoma before her husband of 43 years passed away in 2001. Upon her return to Clay County, Carol worked at AA Propane and then until recently as a clerk at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. Carol was an active participant at the Island View Baptist Church Young at Heart group and a member of the Chapter 1495 Women of the Moose at Lakeshore Lodge #2020. Carol is survived by her mother, Berta Embrey McElroy; her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Marvin Davis; two daughters, Savannah Pipkins (David) of Green Cove Springs and Julie Sullivan (Billy) of Jacksonville; son, James W. LeFebvre (Svetlana) of Arizona; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Pipkins, Palatka, Casey Pipkins (John Hancock) of Orange Park, Shannon Jolly of Kentucky, Coleman Moulton (Doris) of Jacksonville; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and their children. Carol leaves an empty space in many lives. Remember her with love and treat others as she treated you. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 5, 2008 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Reverend Joe Barrie officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
